Domestic Violence

Domestic Violence is the physical, emotional or sexual abuse of a woman by a family member in the woman's own home.

To assist the user of the web site, the information available on the web site has been divided into several different categories, taking into consideration that there is a wide range in the knowledge, experience and resources available to users of the web site.

To make use of the facility, please click on the options to the left of the screen. If you would like to know more about what if available in each option, please read on below.

Media When one gets involved in health issues, one often finds that the amount of information available is extremely detailed and specialised and very difficult to understand by someone who does not know the jargon. This should not be a deterrant to anyone. To assist in bridgeing the gap, and to attempt to make the user of the many diverse opinions that exist on a particular topic, the Network has a media page for each topic to provide links to speeches, newpaper articles, news clips and other media  which introduce the topic, provocative the reader  or are important press releases.

Basic Information   The internet is full of information on a whole range of topics. However, it is difficult to filter through all the information and find what you are looking for without spending hours or even days in front of the computer. This section of the web site aims to provide the user with simple, easy to use and easy to understand web sites on the particular topic, with a brief introduction of each web site. As the best web sites are not necessarily the easiest to use, the web sites are graded as to the level of difficulty giving the user more control of their information search.

Organisations There are many organisations working at international, regional, national and local level in a particular area of interest. It would be most productive for an individual doing some work in any particular topic to get information and perhaps even assistance from the organisations working in that topic. It is also highly recommended that the local organisations arecontacted and liaised with if you are planning to do a project in that community.

Project Planning  Many projects that are thought of are not carried through due to the lack of knowledge or experience of how to go about doing it. If one decides to do a project on a particular area in a community, for the project to work, good planning is essential. The different areas of planning may include writing a proposal, fundraising, working with the community, and evaluating the impact. This holds true from the smallest of projects to the largest international projects. This part of the web site aims to assist with that.

IFMSA Documents  This part of the web site stores the documents that have been produced by IFMSA (International Federation of Medical Students Associations) in its work in a particular area. These include Declarations passed by the General Assembly, Workshop Proposals and Reports, Project Proposals and Reports and papers presented at outside meetings.

Publications  There are books, magazines, newsletters, journals and discussion groups that discuss the particular topic of interest. All such publications that IFMSA comes across in its search will be put on this part of the web site. It must be noted that different levels of expertise may be required to use these resources and that one mgiht be required to pay for some of them.

Ideas for Activities  You might be really interested in a particular topic but you don't know what you as an individual, small group or slightly bigger organisation can do. This section lets you know what has already  been done, inovative ideas, etc to help you make up your mind.

Resources  In order to run projects, one needs resources in the form of funds, technical help or materials. These are not easy to access, but the following may be a good place to start.
